VLADIMIR ZHIKHARTSEV Born 1960, lives and works in Fairbanks, AK, U.S.

Russian artists Vladimir Zhikhartsev traveled all across coastal Alaska to study and explore the intersection of Alaskan and Russian environment and culture. As a plein air artist, most often painting outdoors, Zhikhartsev is seeking to capture the natural beauty and spirituality of the Alaskan sceneries. In his beautiful and colorful watercolors, a mountain dressed in clouds and snow bath in the last light of a setting sun. Towering turrets of a Russian church reveal themselves in the distance through a screen of mist, and the mesmerizing northern light seems as if it is dancing in an endless glowing sky. Apart from being a watercolorist, Zhikhartsev is a talented ice sculpture and a teacher, with the ability of conveying what makes a good painting to students, focusing on the elements of color and light.
