Emerging artist Valeria Pesce was born in Sardinia, Italy in 1963. Since 1991, she has lived in Barcelona, where she began her career as a painter combining it with her previous work as a graphic designer. Pesce is a self-taught painter, creating realistic and dreamlike paintings in oils, acrylics and watercolors. Water and vegetation are the muses behind her paintings. To Pesce, water is an element in eternal transformation, constant movement, light and weightlessness, where everything flows. It is the domain of fish, but also other animals and people.Goldfish and Japanese koi fish seem like elusive colored dots, swimming within round canvases. In Pesce’s world, the fish are fleeting thoughts about the flow of life. Her flowers and plants are colorful and expressive, freely mixed together with no respect to proportions.
For Valeria Pesce, the most difficult task is to decide whether a painting is finished or not. “For me, it is a never-ending process, so that sometimes I retouch old paintings, add something or simply erase them and start a new one”.
