RUTH HARTES Born 1995, lives and works in San Francisco, California, U.S.

Ruth Hartes’ digital paintings are a colorful and abstract expression of natural elements. In her works, Hartes is calling the viewer to step into another world, inviting a discussion about the “morphing” of the physical with the digital and how these two supposedly separate realms have always worked together. All of Hartes’ works begin as photographs of her non-digital fabric paintings. Then Hartes alters and paints over again digitally. This effectively means the works are no longer the same paintings, but not completely of the digital realm either. Hartes’ fascination with water and its movement is represented not only by the titles she gives her works and their fluid quality, but also through the artist’s wish to encourage viewers to embrace a “fluid mindset” when looking at contemporary art.
