Rocio Villanueva is an Italian- Guatemalan self-taught photographer and artist currently residing in Guatemala. Villanueva uses digital photography as her canvas and Photoshop as her tool for creation.
Her creative process begins without the computer, as a sketch on paper that takes shape using elements such as time, place and characters. Her images represent parallel worlds, created with the use of light and shadow, color and textures until they become a painterly vision of nonexistent places.
“I am a storyteller that creates stories through photography, sometimes magical and beautiful; others sad and tragic. I like to use scenes without time, in an ethereal and unreal dimension, with a sense of romanticism and fantasy. My surrealistic images are representations of life because they contain feelings and emotions that resonate with the viewers. I want to make the viewers identify and feel part of the images, and to interpret them according to their own experiences,” says Rocio Villanueva.
