Born in Bulgaria and currently living and working in Spain, artist Lilya Pobrnikova draws on over ten years of experience working and experimenting with different materials such as stone, wood, metal and even ice to create works inspired by nature, landscapes and the beauty of every living form. “Knowing that we live in time of computerization and technologies, I wishe to go back to the beginning- to the harmonious and simple shapes and to abstraction of basic elements such as water, light and fire”. At the same time, Pobornikova’s works also exhibit her fascination with the interaction between these natural forms and artificial architectural patterns, evident in her use of rigid, straight lines which are disrupted by nature’s flowing curves.
Pobornikova’s sculptures are represented in museums in Taiwan, Denmark, Egypt and Brazil. She received awards for her photographic work from “Highlights Magazine” and “National Geographic Magazine”, as well as various symposiums and competitions prizes.
