Born in Acapulco, Mexico, Javiera Estrada’s creative expression encompasses traditional photography alongside mixed media to reveal her appreciation for beauty, as she so profoundly does in her work. Javiera’s interest in the mystical is reflected in her expressive, dreamlike works, a physical portal between being awake and asleep, where she visualizes her innermost feelings.
Her photographic series Pillars of Creation is inspired by a photograph of the same name taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, depicting the interstellar gas and dust in the Eagle Nebula some 7,000 light years away from Earth. Influenced by the study of astrology as well as meta- and quantum physics, Estrada’s Pillars of Creation is an exploration of consciousness and the ever-expanding world of the universe within. Magical worlds are created through explosions of ink in water and through the negative space, vibrant textures emerge organically.
