David Friedman’s luminous canvases capture the brilliance and vitality of Hawaii’s extraordinary beauty. The artist takes the viewer inside, behind and beyond the surface of mere appearance, to a richer, deeper, sacred place where Spirit lives. His intention is to portray the sparkling essential energy that is the pulse of life and enrich it with a bold, vivid color palette.
For Friedman, art is a graphic meditation. The painting displays not only the artist’s exploration of the languages of geometry, optical illusion, shape, pattern, space, form, perspective and perception, but also his feelings and deep connection to the landscapes portrayed. It is evident that color is the main element guiding Friedman’s work; At the junction of two prevalent forces – a visceral connection with the natural beauty around him and infatuation with the ethereal – Friedman found his raison d’etre: To create new context that indulges the imagination and an artistic style that pulls back the physical plane to reveal a much deeper, soul-stirring interpretation of the world around him.
David Friedman is living and working in Hawaii since 1983. He has participated in many group and solo exhibitions in the US.
