ANNAMARIA KOWALSKY Born 1991, lives and works in Vienna, Austria

Austrian photographer Annamaria Kowalsky uses her skills in painting, printmaking and design to create works that represent her multiple passions and evoke broad meaning and understanding of her surreal art. Kowalsky’s works are based on deep, subconscious feelings that reach the surface of physical art in distorted and fragmented ways. The result is a muted challenge to viewers to question the nature of reality and what makes a depiction real or not – Whether the real needs to be translated into our consciousness as a material thing or whether it can maintain its “realness” while still floating within our subconscious. The surrealist nature of her works is influenced by Rene Magritte, Salvador Dali, Francis Bacon, Man Ray and Gerhard Richter.
