Achraf Baznani, the self-taught photographer from Morocco, began taking photographs by chance after receiving a Kodak Ektra 250 as a birthday gift during his teenage years. Baznani specializes in producing surreal photographs and has a profound way of taking normal, everyday objects and transforming them into a magical experience. Through careful staging, optical illusions, overprints, collaging and retouching, Baznani creates a dreamlike reality.
The artist’s fascination with surrealist photography stems from his desire for people to think outside the box. His innovative and creative thinking has also led him to publish a photo book of surreal images, making him the first artist in the Arab world to do so. Achraf Baznani’s dreamy, surreal self-portraiture work represents the artist’s personal thoughts and beliefs, and the world he wishes he lived in.
